The Pelé Little Prince Research Institute is the newest unit of the Little Prince Complex. Established in 2005, began its activities in 2006 and has been developing researches in children's complex diseases in the basic and clinical area
The establishment of a Research Institute was predicted in the institution's strategic planning in a medium term basis. Although the opportunity of counting on the support of the "Athlete of the Century", Pelé, anticipated this planning and the institution agreed to face this challenge. That way, the Pelé Little Prince Research Institute was created.
The work developed in the research unit count on the collaboration of the Complex staff: the hospitals and the Institute of Graduate Studies. The joint actuation of these professionals provides benefits to all the people involved, creating a virtuous circle where the research complements the teaching activities and reflects in the health assistance performance.
While structuring a research unit and investing in this area, Little Prince made an option for the qualification of its staff and for the scientific improvement. This option was made in order to find alternatives to amplify the hope of health and life for the children and adolescents of the institution, extending this benefit to children of the world.
Today the Pelé Little Prince Research Institute has 17 scientists, with important scientific publications, that are ahead of more than 20 innovative projects, seeking for alternatives of cure and improvement of life quality for children and adolescents carrier of diseases.
Doing research in Brazil is daring. We count on a very qualified staff, but the resources are insufficient, and the research activities demands lots of creativity and hard work in order to finance the structure.
